The
dream... will remain a dream; and this will probably be for the best.
After the latest developments, Karaiskaki
Stadium looks certain to be the future home of Olympiakos.
We here at stadia.gr have followed the saga of the Olympiakos new stadium very closely. We have seen it moving from one location to the other countless times. It was therefore thought that this page should remain as it was, in remembrance of a stadium that was never to be! |

The
stadium will be football-only, with no athletics track. It will
have an overall capacity of 40,010:
West stand (VIP) - 12,510 seats East stand - 13,600 seats North stand- 6,950 seats South stand - 6,950 seats Two scoreboards will hang over the north and south stands. The dimensions of the playing surface will be 105m x 68m, while a protective moat will be constructed around it (2.5m wide and 2.5 deep). |

Other
installations will include:
- 32 VIP suites for 10 people each, and 4 for 20 people each - 2 restaurants, one of them VIP, with a spectacular view of the pitch - Olympiakos mega-store (4,500mē) - Cinemas - Olympiakos museum - Medical facilities - Bar at every stadium gate The new stadium will also have approximately 1,700 parking spaces. |

Access
by public transport will be easy: "Tavros" station of the
new light-rail network, which will be constructed by 2004, will be
only 650m away. The existing station of Tavros of the Athens Metro
(line 1) may also serve the new stadium.

The
stadium will be constructed where the Olympiakos training facilities
now stand, in a district called Rendi. It is mainly an industrial
area, halfway between Piraeus and Athens, near the Athens-Thessaloniki
motorway. New roads, bridges and junctions are scheduled for completion
in the stadium's vicinity, making access by car a lot easier than
it is today.
According to Olympiakos CFP, the total cost of the new stadium will be about € 60 million. Works are expected to last no more than 18 months. This new stadium is a possible candidate to host the final of the football tournament in the 2004 Olympics. According to original plans, this was scheduled to take place in "Nikos Goumas" Stadium, but the much needed works there haven't begun yet. The Athens Organising Committee for 2004 is now looking at other options and, as the stadium at Rendi will be ready in time, it could be the one to host the final. |

Finally,
it should be noted that Olympiakos plan to build a complete sports
complex next to the new football stadium. This will include an indoor
arena for basketball and volleyball (capacity 8-9,000) and a swimming
centre, with an Olympic pool.
